It seemed inevitable and unavoidable.

One league after another halted competition. And the premier event almost every basketball fan waits for this time of year was the last to be canceled, capping the most surreal week in American sports history.

It remains hard to believe: There will be no March Madness.

The NCAA announced Thursday it canceled its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and other championship events through the spring season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
