East Lansing — There’s no way Mark Dantonio could have known earlier this week, when he talked about adversity that would certainly come for his Michigan State team season, that it would be dealing with it so quickly.
It would have been impossible to know, on Monday when the Spartans held their annual media day, they’d be dealing with a significant loss before even finishing a week of preseason camp.
But without getting through a practice in full pads, Michigan State lost one of its most important pieces when fifth-year senior linebacker Ed Davis suffered a knee injury that will require surgery and keep him out for the season.
