Michigan State finally took advantage of the fact its defense has yet to give up a first down and cashed in with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Connor Cook to Macgarrett Kings Jr. with 1:46 left in the first quarter.
The drive lasted eight plays and featured a 25-yard pass from Cook to Aaron Burbridge on fourth-and-9 that set up the Spartans inside the Rutgers 10.
MSU misses early opportunities
Michigan State had a chance to jump out early after the defense forced a three and out on the opening drive. But a dropped pass by Aaron Burbridge inside the 5-yard line was followed by Michael Geiger’s 35-yard field goal attempt getting blocked by Djwany Mera with 10:07 left in the first quarter.
