The Hoosiers committed a pair of penalties, putting a stop to a drive that took them into Michigan State territory after two plays.
Indiana picked up first downs on consecutive plays to start the drive. Richard Lagow completed passes of 10 yards (to Luke Timian) and 22 yards (to Ricky Jones), before a 10-yard holding penalty backed the Hoosiers to the MSU 43-yard line. Two plays later, Lagow found Timian for a gain of two. Another hold two plays after that gave the Hoosiers a third-and-28, which they did not convert. Joseph Gedeon’s 41-yard punt was fielded by Brandon Sowards at the MSU 9, where he was swallowed up after picking up only a yard.
