Illinois turned the L.J. Scott fumble into three points, after Chase McLaughlin's 42-yard field goal increased the lead to 17-9 for the Illini.
Should the lead hold for Illinois, it will be its first win over Michigan State since Sept. 3, 2016. The Illini won that game, 23-20.
Fumble ends drive for MSU
Well, that was the last thing Michigan State could afford.
L.J. Scott's fumble on the first play of the drive following Kendrick Foster's second touchdown of the game was a costly one. Illinois recovered the fumble, and will start the drive at the Michigan State 27-yard line.
