East Lansing — Brian Lewerke threw for three touchdowns then ran for 30 yards in the final minutes to set up No. 25 Michigan State’s winning score in a 40-31 victory over Indiana at Spartan Stadium on Saturday.
Junior kicker Matt Coghlin converted from 21 yards with 5 seconds to play and Michigan State added a touchdown on the final play when Michael Dowell recovered a fumble in the end zone to give the Spartans a much-needed victory heading into the next two weeks and games at Ohio State and Wisconsin.
Lewerke finished with 300 yards passing, connecting for a pair of scores with fifth-year senior Darrell Stewart and fifth-year senior tight end Matt Seybert.
