Kirby Smart's raise to $7 million only puts him fifth nationally

Kirby Smart has cashed in on Georgia's run to the national championship game.

The Bulldogs coach, entering just his third season, received a contract extension that now takes him through the 2024 season. More importantly, his salary has nearly doubled.

Smart will be making $7 million per season, after $3.75 million in 2017.

Kirby Smart has received a contract extension through the 2024 season, totaling $49 million. So Smart will now appear to be earning $7 million per year, pending some other details.

Smart now joins five other coaches -- including three from the SEC -- who are making at least $7 million per season: Nick Saban (Alabama), Urban Meyer (Ohio State), Jim Harbaugh (Michigan), Gus Malzahn (Auburn) and Jimbo Fisher (Texas A&M).
