Investigation clears MSU softball coaches of wrongdoing

After an independent investigation that lasted nearly two months, two Michigan State softball coaches have been cleared of any wrongdoing after a former player alleged they conspired to purposely throw pitches at her in batting practice.

Gerald J. Gleeson II of Miller Canfield in Troy conducted the investigation, yet failed to interview a key witness, team manager Ben Hayden, The News has learned.

"MSU's internal investigation found no indication of any wrongdoing by members of the MSU softball coaching staff," MSU spokesman Jason Cody told The News in a statement Tuesday morning. "There is no indication that the student-athlete in question was intentionally targeted to be hit by pitches.
