Hours before the game Spartan senior Matt Costello didn’t even know if he was going to play. Hobbled with an injured ankle it wasn’t a given and frankly many young men wouldn’t have. He did and Maryland paid for it.
With guts and energy that ended with him grabbing his head coach as the game came to an end and twirling him in the air Costello’s performance will go down in the lore of Spartan basketball as he led his team to a 74-65 triumph over mighty Maryland.
Costello had 15 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
