South Bend, Ind. — Redshirt junior guard Shay Colley's layup with 7.6 seconds remaining lifted Michigan State to an 88-87 victory over in-state rival Central Michigan in the women's NCAA Tournament opener Saturday.
Colley caught the ball on the wing and attacked toward the basket, and went up-and-under as a flying Presley Hudson tried to stop her layup.
On Central Michigan’s last possession, sophomore guard Micaela Kelly's last-second shot, with defenders in her grill, was off the mark.
The ninth-seeded Spartans (21-11) advanced to play No. 1 Notre Dame, the defending national champion, at Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind.
