EAST LANSING -- When Michigan State faces a school with a new head coach early in the season, it typically reviews film from that coach's last stop to get a sense of his schemes and tendencies.
This week, though, that strategy presents a problem. Arizona State is led by first-year coach Herm Edwards. And before Saturday, Edwards' last coaching job was with the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs.
Edwards was the most unconventional college football hire of the offseason, as he moved from a nine-year broadcasting career into college football, where he hadn't coached since moving to the NFL in 1990.
