Houston – Buddy Hield of Oklahoma was named the Naismith Player of the Year on Sunday, edging Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine as well as two other finalists – Tyler Ulis of Kentucky and Malcolm Brogdon of Virginia.
Hield also won the Oscar Robertson Trophy on Friday while Valentine was named the Associated Press Player of the Year on Thursday.
Villanova’s Jay Wright was named the Naismith Coach of the Year.
Valentine was looking to add to an impressive haul of national awards that include being named the top player in the country by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Basketball Times, Sports Illustrated, USA Today Sports and NBC Sports.
