EAST LANSING, Mich. – Jon Reschke realizes how much more impressive No. 8 Michigan State’s win at Notre Dame could have been.
After the Spartans broke the game open with Gerald Holmes’ 73-yard touchdown run up the gut with 3:45 remaining the third quarter, it was time to play textbook football with a 29-point lead.
First downs were considered more important than touchdowns at that time and defensive stops would help take the air out of the football with the primary goal of just landing the plane in the final 18 and a half minutes foremost in everybody’s mind.
