EAST LANSING -- There's little separation in Michigan State's spring running back battle, with two young, similarly sized backs in Gerald Holmes and Madre London vying for the top spot on the depth chart.
The two put up similar numbers in the spring's first scrimmage on Friday and have been splitting time on the Spartans' first team.
But in terms of experience, Holmes hopes that one more year of experience and those 14 carries and 44 yards from scrimmage last year help him get a leg up.
"My mindset now really is to really focus on being mature, being a freshman back last year, being behind (Jeremy Langford) and Nick Hill, and now having an opportunity to play," Holmes said on Tuesday.
