Detroit Free Press deputy sports editor Ryan Ford, whose byline can be seen atop informative and entertaining stories for all corners of Detroit and Michigan sports fandom, was named co-Michigan sportswriter of the year on Tuesday, winning the award from the National Sports Media Association.
James Edwards III of The Athletic shares this year's honor with Ford.
The NSMA announced state-by-state winners for sportswriter and sportscaster of the year. The Free Press' Helene St. James was the other finalist for sportswriter of the year.
WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) sports director Brad Galli and longtime Lansing voice Jack Ebling tied as Michigan sportscasters of the year.
