Orlando, Fla. — Derrick Nix is not the same person fans remember.
Far from it.
He’s still chasing his NBA dream as a member of the Pistons Summer League roster. It’s just taking a bit longer.
After a stellar high school career at Detroit Pershing, where he was named Mr. Basketball in 2010, Nix played four years at Michigan State that included a trip to the Final Four as a freshman.
After three years overseas, he’s looking for a break — he played a couple of games with the Pistons D-League affiliate Grand Rapids last season and spent time in a free-agent camp with them last month.
