Former Michigan State All-American Eric Allen dies at 66

EAST LANSING -- Eric Allen, a record-setting and All-American running back at Michigan State in the late 1960's and early 1970's, passed away this week in South Carolina, according to the school. He was 66.

In his three seasons from 1969-71, Allen accounted for 4,446 all-purpose yards and 30 touchdowns. He was named Big Ten MVP as a senior and earned All-American honors after rushing for 1,494 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns.

Against Purdue that season, Allen ran for 350 yards and recorded 371 all-purpose yards, both of which set single-game NCAA records.

"Eric Allen was one of the best running backs MSU's has ever had," former Michigan State All-American tight end Billy Joe DuPree said in a press release.
