Former Michigan State All-American center Dan Currie died at age 82 in Las Vegas on Monday, the university announced Friday.
Currie helped lead Michigan State to national championships in 1955 and 1957 and went on to play nine seasons in the NFL.
A graduate of St. Anthony High School in Detroit, Currie was a three-year starter at Michigan State for coach Duffy Daugherty from 1955-57 and played both ways. He was a guard his sophomore and junior seasons before moving to center as a senior, and was also a linebacker.
In 1957, Currie was named the team's MVP, a first-team All-American center and finished eighth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy.
