Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo talks to reporters after losses to Wisconsin and Iowa on Jan. 18, 2016. By Joe Rexrode, DFP.
EAST LANSING -- Michigan State freshman Matt McQuaid was taking everything away from Wisconsin junior Bronson Koenig, denying the baseline, beating him to spots and forcing Koenig to retreat and reset with the shot clock fading.
Then McQuaid extended a hand briefly and made contact with Koenig. Advantage gained? No. Foul called? Yes.
“The way the game’s called now, that’s a foul,” McQuaid said Monday after practice, a day after fouling on defense played a significant role in the Spartans’ 77-76 loss at Wisconsin, dropping MSU to 16-3 (3-3 Big Ten).
