DETROIT – In late December, Cassius Winston battled an ice storm to watch a showcase tournament at HYPE Recreation Center in Dearborn Heights.
The Detroit U-D Jesuit senior point guard and Michigan State signee was there to see two of the nation’s top 2016 recruits, Josh Jackson and Miles Bridges. While Jackson and Bridges fled Michigan to close their prep careers for national powers, Winston chose to stay and has been rewarded.
Winston was named the 36th recipient of the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Detroit Free Press.
