East Lansing — Michigan State will run through its first scrimmage of preseason camp Saturday, and coach Mark Dantonio said that will be the first real indicator of how things will shake out at linebacker in the wake of Ed Davis’ season-ending knee injury.
Before Michigan State hit the practice field Friday, just two days after the fifth-year senior was lost for the year, Dantonio ran through some of the options to take over the strong-side outside linebacker spot, the one the Spartans call the “money” position.
“Chris Frey has played a lot of football for us last year as a true freshman,” Dantonio said.
