Dantonio: MSU 'very fortunate' to hire White

The way this usually works in recruiting is a college coach hires the father of a high-profile recruit and, later, the recruit commits to the school.

Michigan State did it the other way around. The Spartans received a verbal commitment from Walled Lake Western wide receiver Cody White and, later, it hired his father, Sheldon White, who began working in East Lansing on Monday.

“We recruited an individual he was close to -- I guess I can say that, I don’t know,” MSU football coach Mark Dantonio said this week at Big Ten media days, attempting to avoid an NCAA violation by speaking about a recruit.
