East Lansing – Just five weeks into the season, the optimism surrounding Michigan State football isn’t where it was before it began, or even two weeks ago for that matter.
The Spartans dropped to No. 4 in the Associated Press rankings this week after a 24-21 victory over Purdue on Saturday, one that hardly inspired the confidence of the voters and surely has some fans wondering about the team as Big Ten play gets rolling.
And after a couple of lackluster performances, the bad news continued to mount on Sunday as coach Mark Dantonio announced fifth-year senior safety RJ Williamson is out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a torn biceps muscle.
