EAST LANSING – There is nobody else on earth who can relate to what Tyler O’Connor is about to experience better than Andrew Maxwell.
Nor is there anybody who would like to spare O’Connor the full brunt of that experience more.
O’Connor is at long last getting his shot to be Michigan State’s starting quarterback. A real shot this time. Not that desperate, brief glance the Spartan coaches gave him three years ago — when Connor Cook won the job and Maxwell lost it.
Maxwell would like to see O’Connor keep the gig. So conversations with his friend this month have included bits of advice from lessons learned and lingering regrets.
