EAST LANSING – What transpired Friday night at Breslin Center might be Michigan State's first uplifting loss to Michigan in the history of Spartan athletics.
That scene, that energy — a program-record 7,326 fans stirring as MSU’s volleyball team fell to the Wolverines in three sets, the last two of them nail-biters — overwhelmed the result. Because it felt like the beginning of something.
After the final point, first-year coach Leah Johnson grabbed a mic and addressed the crowd, telling them, “If you keep showing up, we’ll keep getting better for you.”
This was Johnson’s vision when she convinced athletic director Alan Haller to move all of MSU’s volleyball matches from Jenison Field House to Breslin Center.
