The voice of a grieving mother can be many things in a short conversation. Somber, soft, grateful, amazingly normal. And always broken.
Karen Sadler is a grieving mother. She is also a proud mother.
“So proud, so proud,” she repeated Saturday, trailing off reflectively as she spoke about her son, Mike Sadler, the former Michigan State punter who was killed in a car accident a week ago Saturday night in Wisconsin.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Spartan Stadium, open to family, friends, teammates and anyone who appreciated Mike for any reason — a number far greater than Karen realized before this past week.
