As early as 2004, former Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon learned of concerns about Dr. William Strampel, longtime dean of MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, according to a document released Monday by MSU.
A Dec. 21, 2004, one-page memo sent to Simon, then MSU provost, details "a matter of concern" regarding comments made by Strampel during a visit to MSU's student-run telemarketing program.
More than 20 students "expressed concerns" about the remarks, said the memo, written by Charles H. Webb and Marti K.S. Heil, then vice president and associate vice president for university development.
