Flint — Mateen Cleaves will be tried for rape after a Genesee County judge reinstated charges against the former Michigan State basketball star.
The decision Monday by Judge Archie L. Hayman of Genesee County Circuit Court reversed a December ruling by Flint District Judge Cathy Dowd, who had said there was a lack of evidence to try Cleaves, 39.
Cleaves is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he had met hours before at a charity golf outing in September 2015.
During a preliminary examination, the Mount Morris woman testified Cleaves had pulled her back into a Mundy Township motel room where the two had gone after drinks.
