Criminal charges brought against former Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon this week are consistent with her hesitance to testify before a U.S. Senate committee in June, say the two senators who head that committee.
Simon was charged with lying to state investigators during questioning about her knowledge of a 2014 Title IX report into former MSU employee and convicted sexual abuser Larry Nassar.
Simon publicly testified about that issue during a hearing before the .S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security, whose members have been investigating sexual abuse in athletics over the past several months.
