EAST LANSING — It was the type of performance Tom Izzo and his players have come to expect at home.
And a much-needed return to form for No. 14 Michigan State basketball – on a record-setting night for Cassius Winston.
The senior point guard passed another Spartan legend, Mateen Cleaves, to become the Big Ten’s all-time assist leader in a 67-55 victory over Wisconsin. The senior point guard recorded his 817th career assist with a pick-and-roll lob to Xavier Tillman for an alley-oop dunk with 6:23 to play in the second half. Cleaves, who watched the assist while sitting opposite MSU’s bench and presented Winston with a ceremonial ball for his achievement after the game, held the record since 2000.
