Honolulu — Michigan State started out strong in its first game of the season in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Friday night, but couldn’t hold off the Arizona Wildcats, losing 65-63 in the opening game of the Armed Forces Classic doubleheader.
Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr. hit a 3-pointer with 7.0 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 63-63 but, out of the timeout that followed, Arizona’s Kadeem Allen went the length of the court for an uncontested layup to give Arizona a hard-fought victory.
In his first career start, freshman Miles Bridges scored 21 points and had seven rebounds.
