EAST LANSING - With Michigan State trailing by three points late in the first quarter at Michigan last season, quarterback Brian Lewerke took a shotgun snap and scanned the field for an open receiver.
He avoided a sack, tucked the ball in his left arm and sprinted through the middle of the defense before diving head-first between four defenders into the end zone.
Lewerke took a hit that nearly knocked off his helmet, but it was worth it. The 14-yard touchdown run laid the foundation for Michigan State's 14-10 win in Ann Arbor last October and, if given the chance, he would do it again.
