EAST LANSING - Brian Lewerke arrived at Michigan State as an accomplished quarterback.
A member of the Spartans' 2015 signing class, he threw for more than 5,000 yards while breaking passing records at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix. Still, he was not prepared for the leap to the college level.
"I was overwhelmed from my first year here from all the new playbooks," Lewerke recalled last week.
Now heading into his redshirt junior season, Lewerke is comfortable and confident. He has established himself as the starter, is coming off a breakout 2017 season and the only quarterback competition at Michigan State is for the backup spot.
