EAST LANSING — The wheels of the Grumman C-2 Greyhound, a twin-engine military cargo plane, hit the deck of the USS Nimitz but missed their catch rope, forcing the pilot to pull his plane back into the air again, circle back and take another shot at landing on the aircraft carrier 200 miles from San Diego.
The second time, it went without a hitch.
Not exactly the kind of touchdown that nervous passenger Brian Lewerke expected, but in many ways somewhat fitting.
