Book covers CTE of Proebstle, '65 MSU teammate

EAST LANSING – Michigan State's 1965 national championship team is gathering this weekend to celebrate its 50th anniversary, with a full slate of activities that started Thursday evening at the players' favorite college watering hole and will culminate in on-field recognition during Saturday's homecoming game between No. 2 MSU and Purdue.

"This will be an incredible weekend," said Ernie Pasteur, a member of that team and the organizer of events.

Of the 80 or so team members expected back, Jim Proebstle's name does not carry the same recognition as Clinton Jones, Gene Washington or Bob Apisa. But Proebstle, the team's starting tight end as a senior, has told a story that could have a bearing on the future of the game he and his teammates played and love.
