Big Ten power rankings, observations: Top starts to separate from crowded middle

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some odd things happened in Bloomington and Ann Arbor on Saturday: Two teams favored to win games went and, in relatively uneventful fashion, won their games. Indiana was favored over Michgian State and handled its business. Michigan was expected to beat Illinois and did so.

How about that.

Maybe, just maybe, the Big Ten is starting to find some smooth air. It was only a matter of time before the standings thinned out and things started making sense. That appears to be underway. The top of the conference is defining itself more and more. Wisconsin posted impressive wins over Michigan and at Minnesota last week.
