CHICAGO — Jim Delany does not see the Big Ten changing its division format in football for the foreseeable future.
The commissioner, entering his 30th season at the helm of the league, said during the opening of Big Ten football media days that the conference’s current construct — with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State in the East — is a result of the Big Ten’s first foray into divisional alignment.
“The first one was based on competitive balance over the last 20 years. And to be honest with you, it wasn't received that well,” Delany said of the six-team Leaders/Legends Divisions, which the league used from 2011-13.
