The lectern inside a conference room at an East Lansing hotel sat empty, waiting for a Michigan State University student to tell the world her allegations of being raped and how MSU had fallen short in its investigation.
A lawyer would soon sit at a long white table next to the lectern to explain the student's federal lawsuit against MSU.
Facing the lectern and the table, chairs sat empty, soon to be filled by members of the media who would broadcast the student's words to the world.
That was the scene earlier this month as Bailey Kowalski talked about her trauma and lawsuit, and asserted that MSU's counseling center told her not to tell police about her assault by basketball players.
