Arizona State's Herm Edwards welcoming challenge from 'big-time' Michigan State

After a season-opening win against UTSA Saturday night, Herm Edwards got home after midnight but didn't go to sleep.

The first-year Arizona State coach returned to the football building at about 4 a.m. with plenty on his mind. Edwards spent nearly 30 minutes responding to text messages congratulating him on his first win as a college head coach, and also had to turn his attention to the upcoming opponent.

Arizona State (1-0) will host No. 15 Michigan State (1-0) on Saturday (10:45 p.m., ESPN) and the Spartans are a greater challenge than UTSA.

"We've got a big-time football team coming in here now, an established program," Edwards said Monday.
