Another slow start, key mistakes doom Michigan State basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Tom Izzo cautioned anyone who would listen that Michigan State’s blowout win of Rutgers exposed a number of his team’s flaws. Biggest of all was the way the Spartans sluggishly started Wednesday’s game.

His warning proved prophetic Saturday, and the issues particularly problematic against Penn State.

“Maybe my guys will learn lessons,” Izzo said after MSU’s 72-63 loss to the Nittany Lions snapped its four-game win streak. “Not many lessons do you learn through victory. You usually learn lessons through defeat. … We just did not feel we came out ready to play.
