Penn State and James Franklin had been working on a top-five recruiting class for 2018, but a key component has just come off the board.
Justin Fields, a five-star quarterback, announced Tuesday night that he was decommitting from Penn State and reopening his recruitment.
Fields is 2018's No. 1-ranked dual-threat quarterback, and considered a top-10 overall player by all of the recruiting sites. The Harrison (Ga.) High School star was just named MVP of The Opening's Orlando regional.

Florida and Florida State are among the schools to recently offer Fields, who just wrapped up competing in the Elite 11 Finals over the weekend.
