With both teams severely depleted by players being at Team USA's World Junior Camp, it was Minnesota that rose to the occasion and remained undefeated, at 7-0.
With a 3-1 win over Michigan, the Gophers are off to their best start in over 30 years. They have yet to trail in a game this season. Goaltender Jack Lafontaine has started all seven games, and this was his first win against his former team, from which he transferred two years ago.
"It wasn't a pretty game for us, but we did enough good things that amount to a win, and that's what is important," Minnesota head coach Bob Motzko said.
