Union came close to a sweep at vaunted Ralph Engelstad Arena, but a late goal by North Dakota salvaged a tie out of the weekend series.
Union, which started the year 0-5, is now 8-6-1 on the season.
Junior wing Shane Gersich jammed in a rebound off a Rhett Gardner shot at 15:42 of the third period to pull out the tie for North Dakota. UND outshot Union 4-0 in the scoreless 5-minute overtime, but nobody scored.
Union had scored twice in 22 seconds to start the third period to take a 2-1 lead.
