Chasing UMD
In 2018, UMD's national championship was earned by winning four consecutive one-goal games in the NCAA tourney. At the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn., a freshman goaltender and a defense corps comprised almost entirely of rookies, won back-to-back games by a 2-1 score. 2019? The Bulldogs outdid themselves. At the Frozen Four in Buffalo, with many of the same key players, UMD shut out Massachusetts in the title game. The Bulldogs allowed just three goals during the entirety of the NCAA tourney, and in doing so produced one of the most stifling defensive performances this century.
