JUPITER (CBSMiami/AP) — Justin Maxwell hit a game-ending three-run homer to lift the Miami Marlins’ split squad to a 5-4 victory over the Washington Nationals Friday.
Maxwell connected on Paolo Espino’s pitch with one out in the ninth inning.
It was the second homer in as many games for Maxwell, who is bidding for a roster spot as a backup outfielder.
Nats veteran pitcher Gio Gonzalez allowed two hits in two scoreless innings in his first start of spring training.
