Former Miami Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich added his name to MLB lore on Wednesday night.
During the Milwaukee Brewers’ 13-12 win (10 innings) over the Cincinnati Reds, Yelich became the second player this MLB season to hit for the cycle and also tied the Brewers’ record for most hits in a game with six.
“It’s one of those things you never really expect to do,” Yelich told reporters after the game. “Obviously, you’ve got to have some luck involved in it; that’s always a factor when you do something like that.”
The breakdown of Yelich’s hits on this night: A single to center field in the first, an infield single in the second, a home run to right in the fifth, a double to left in the sixth, an RBI triple to deep right field in the seventh and another infield single for good measure in the ninth.
