The bats were exceptionally quiet for the Marlins on Saturday.
They were, at least, until they needed them.
Miguel Rojas’ sacrifice fly in the 11th scored the winning run from third and the Marlins defeated the Padres, 2-1.
The Marlins improved to 65-63 with the win. But they remained 4 1/2 games back in the Wild Card playoff chase as the frontrunners all won.
It was a quiet night offensively for the Marlins. Marcell Ozuna hit his 31st homer, a solo shot into the Home Run Sculpture in the fourth inning.
They didn’t score again until the 11th when Derek Dietrick doubled to lead off the inning, advanced to second on Mike Aviles’ sacrifice bunt, and came home on Rojas’ sacrifice fly.
