Today finally marks the end of the 2019-20 MLB international amateur signing period. It traditionally runs from July 2 through June 15 of the following year, but the league extended this one an extra four months due to COVID-19.
Way back at the start of the signing period, the Marlins made a big splash with the additions of shortstops José Salas, Junior Sánchez and Ian Lewis and right-hander Eury Pérez (all rated by Baseball America as top-100 prospects in the class). All of them are currently participating in the Florida Instructional League. At the end of the 2020 regular season, they quietly inked Venezuelan right-hander Yoelvis Burguillos.
