Peter O’Brien was booed loudly for catching a foul pop. That it happened to be the final at bat of beloved Mets player David Wright’s career was what set off the crowd at Citi Field.
You can’t blame Mets fans for having some fun. It was their night to celebrate one of the most legendary and popular of all Mets as Wright stepped off the baseball stage for the last time, and the Mets made it all the sweeter for them with a 1-0 win in 13 innings.
The Marlins were mere bystanders in all of it, background extras who applauded along with the sellout crowd of 43,928 when Wright was introduced for the final time.
