Mistakes come back to haunt Marlins in loss to Arizona

Elieser Hernandez stumbled and fell during his windup without the ball ever leaving his hand. He was charged with a balk, and that was just the beginning of a night of miscues by the Marlins in their 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

All of it was probably enough to gray Don Mattingly’s hair as the manager watched the game with Derek Jeter from the co-owner’s private suite while serving a one-game suspension.

Hernandez’s unscripted gymnastics routine didn’t end up costing him.

But the same couldn’t be said for a base running blunder by JT Riddle and a dropped fly ball by Derek Dietrich as the Marlins’ three-game win streak came to an end.
